No Thanks! – Mini-Review by Mike Petty

You only get 33 cards and 55 chips in this little card game by Thorsten Gimmler. It proves to be a very fast, intriguing filler for 3-5 players.

Like most games I’ve picked up recently, this one is simple and will be great to introduce non-gamers to contemporary board/card games. Each round a card is turned up. Cards are numbered from 3 to 35 and if you take one, they count face value against you. So, ideally you don’t want to pick up a single one of them for your holdings. After the card is revealed for the round, players in turn must either take the card or pay a chip to avoid taking it (thus the title—No Thanks!). When you take it, though, you get all those chips the other players put on it.

The game ends when 24 cards are given away, so that means 9 random cards do not show up in each game. For scoring, values on the cards count against you (unless they’re part of a sequence of consecutive numbers) and the number of chips you’ve got is subtracted away from that total. The lowest score wins. As you can probably tell, players will take cards hoping to string them together in lower scoring sequences. Those 9 missing cards, though, can really mess up those plans!

I love how this game can be taught so quickly and how most players take to it immediately. The scoring is just strange enough that some new players really won’t get that until they see it once at the end of the first game. It’s not my favorite filler, but I find myself grabbing it off the shelf regularly when I need a sure thing. I know the small price was well worth it, since it will be played by many groups that I game with for years to come.

No Thanks! is a great little card game, just perfect for some light card play. Easy to learn, and to play, as long as you can add numbers, you're gonna do great!. Played 3 games of it the first time I played. Just look at a card, figure out if you want to take it or pass it (say No Thanks!), because the person with the LOWEST total wins. Theres a few more rules, but it just takes just a couple of minutes to get the hang of it and learn to love it.

A fun and quick bidding game where people are bidding on not having to take a card. It's particularly fun to pass the bids on a card around that won't affect you, just to gather everyone else's tokens, and if it's high enough or you're brave enough, you can pass it around again. :)

Gamepug
No Thanks is one of those games that comes in a small package with a small price tag that gets endless play. It hits that magic formula of simple rules, easy game play, and interesting decisions. A must have.

This is such a fun game that most anyone can learn and play in about 20 minutes. You don't want high numbers but you need chips to be able to pass on a card. I love sending a high card around the table to milk people out of chips. This doesn't make very many friends but it sure is fun.

The best little filler ever invented!

Wow! Super simple concept: Take the card (which counts as points against you), or pass on it (and have to spend one of your precious chips). Never has a simple decision been so intriguing! This serves as a great launching point to get non-gamers (particularly ones who are familiar with card games) started into the game night!

A great card game. Easy to explain, fast to play. It opens up a world of new possible game mechanics. Players can master some strategy and improve play over their first few games.

Cute little game with extremely simple rules. It literally takes 1 minute to explain, but with a competitive group, there is a lot of fun to be had.

No Thanks! is a very simple game that plays remarkably well. Rules are literally explained in 1 minute, and anyone can join. I really enjoy seeing new players' expressions the first time you pass on a card you could actually use - just to generate more coins for the next time around. It is a great little filler.
