Wreckage
From the Publisher...
A GAME OF GUNS & GASOLINE!
In the post-apocalyptic world of Wreckage, the landscape is a twisted wasteland. Road warriors rule the highways in souped-up vehicles decked out with guns, armor, and turbo-charged engines. The best of these gasoline gladiators have come together to compete in the arena of death. The winner is awarded fuel for a year, water for a month, and the glory of the kill. The losers are wreckage.
In Wreckage, each player controls one of eight different vehicles and equips it with weapons, armor, and other epuipment of his choice. By playing cards from their vehicles'steering decks, the players drive their vehicles around the play area, collecting gas and blowing each other's cars to scrap metal.
Wreckage is a fast-paced game of turbo-charged mayhem for 2-4 players ages 10 and up, and can be played in 20-60 minutes.
Our Comments...
This Mini-Review by Mike Petty originally appeared in our 2/1/04 Newsletter:
If you're looking for a game with big weapons, action and
destruction, give Wreckage a try! This is one Fantasy Flight
Games' latest releases in their Silver Line. I enjoy almost every
one of the games in this line and Wreckage is no exception.
If you've played the classic Steve Jackson game, Car Wars, you
know the scene. Cars equipped with deadly weapons battle it
out in an arena. Like Car Wars, there's no board. Vehicles are
moved and turned with the aid of a measuring tool. Unlike Car
Wars, the rules are quite streamlined. Compared to other games
in the Silver Line, Wreckage has more rules to digest, but for
what's essentially a miniatures game, it's simple.
Basic moves are played each turn from a player's "steering
deck". At the start of the game, all cards are available to a
player, so there's no luck of the draw. Players play two cards
each round that affect the speed and/or direction of their cars.
Generally one weapon can be fired each action. Hits and
damage are extremely quick to resolve, so there's not a lot of
downtime once the rules are understood by all the players. The
first player to acquire three gas cans from around the arena or
the player with the last car still in the game wins.
A post at the Board Game Geek from the designer states that he
always uses Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars when he plays. So
far I've only used the cardboard counters included with the
Fantasy Flight version, but this is something you may want to
consider if you're heading full throttle into Wreckage gaming.
