Sid Meier’s Pirates! (PC) is being developed by Firaxis Games and will be published by Atari. Among the most popular and beloved games in history, Pirates! was originally published in 1987 and was instantly recognized as one of the greatest and most influential designs in the early days of PC gaming. The new version is awaited with great anticipation by fans of the original and by a whole new generation of “buccaneers”.

The PC classic allows players to take the role of a pirate captain in the 17th Century Caribbean. The boardgame will remain true to the theme and goals of the PC game, while offering players a uniquely competitive, tabletop experience. Players will be able to challenge their friends across the table and become the most famous (or infamous) pirate captain of the day. By building a powerful crew, raiding the shipping lanes, plundering towns, and increasing their pirate skills, players will amass fame and fortune on the Spanish Main.

The game design will feature interesting game mechanics similar to those found in today’s “Euro games”, combined with a great theme, breath-taking art by Paul Niemeyer and Jeff Menges, and stunning plastic miniatures of pirates, treasure, and ships.
