Adventure beneath the surface of the ocean
In Search for Poseidon's Gold, up to four players engage in an ocean battle to see which player can collect the most gold and win the competition! A reconfigurable board gives this game high replay value. Control your submarine fleet and divers to collect the treasure while using torpedoes to thwart enemy submarines. Kraken and Sea Serpents patrol the depths in an effort to ruin your plans for victory. Win by being the last Captain standing or by collecting the most treasure.

Here's a mini-review by Mike Petty from our June 21, 2003 newsletter:
This game is a labor of love. Designer Doug Borresen sent me a review copy along with the initial stock of his game. My wife and I tried a 2-player game a couple nights ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it—and I didn’t even win! I had read the information from Doug’s site beforehand, so I understood the amount of time and effort he put in this game to make it a first class presentation. I’m happy to say the game play didn’t disappoint.
The premise is simple. Players are controlling submarines which are going out in search of the fabled “Poseidon’s Gold”. The player who brings back the most of the treasure wins the game. Player actions are based on an action point system. The theme is so apparent in the game that the mechanics are extremely intuitive. Choices consist of moving subs, releasing divers, digging for treasure or firing torpedoes at opponents. To add a little uncertainty, sea creatures roam randomly about the board throughout the game.
The thing that strikes me most is that the game is so flexible. Most obvious is the many possibilities for setting up the board. The playing area is formed from stacked hexes. The different levels of each stack represents the water depth, making an attractive three-dimensional surface. Besides variable board set ups, though, there are plenty of rule variations ranging from random action point allowances to team play and versions with more deadly sub battles.
There’s no doubt the $55 price on this game is high compared to our other games at Fair Play. Keep in mind, though, that this is a special limited printing (only a hundred copies) crafted by the designer himself. If the game sounds at all appealing to you, I strongly recommend reading through the information Doug has at his site (http://www.wilcotgroup.com/poseidon/) and consider making the purchase.
