Sucking Vacuum (2nd edition - Ultimate)
From the Publisher...
The six-man international crew has just dimmed the lights, bid each other a multi-lingual good night, and settled back to dream of gravity on board the International Space Station when the unthinkable happens. Siren blare, airlocks slam shut, emergency lights flash and it quickly dawns on the crew (not an IQ under 120 among'em) that something has gone horribly wrong. They quickly realize that the whole station is losing oxygen and that it isn't going to be long before they're all so much unrecoverable salvage.
The space station is a disaster. Equipment is strewn about after years of neglect. Nobody knows what to do. But then it dawns on them (sharp lads they are) - there is only one escape pod and six of them. It doesn't take an astrophysicist with a PhD from M.I.T. to figure out that only two of them are going home, and the rest are going to end up Sucking Vacuum.
Sucking Vacuum is an easy to learn, fast action strategy game for 3 to 6 players. Players assume the role of the doomed astronauts searching for equipment and struggling to escape the doomed space station. They must make their way through a randomly assembled map of the International Space Station while fighting off attacks of other players who are trying to escape themselves. For the first time you can get your hands on the Origins Nominated Sucking Vacuum in a full color boxed format. We've even included the Alien Incursion expansion and tournament rules!

Sucking Vacuum was fun even in its first edition, which had black and white art that was (being charitable) not so great; but the game itself was fun, so I when they came out with a new full-color edition, I bought it (sight unseen, other than the cover)...
Once I got it though... WOW! The art is not just full-color, it's SUPERB! The whole Space Station looks like it was done in a 3D program – as do the object and character counters – and done by somebody with a lot of skill, too! The whole thing is beautiful!
Even better, most of the rooms contain tiny little details that you may recognize if you're into Science Fiction... stuff like Han Solo frozen in carbonite in the Cargo Bay, or an Alien face-hugger in a containment jar in the Medical Lab, or a Dalek tucked behind some barrels of radioactive waste in Engineering. (I'm naming those rooms myself, based on what they look like.) When I played it with my friends, we spent almost as much time peering at those map tiles, finding those little "easter eggs," as we did playing the game!
The rules have also been streamlined a bit since the first edition, and two new versions of the game were added: Tournament Rules, and an "Alien Incursion" variant where the Space Station is invaded by little grey aliens with Stun Prods, looking for test subjects. (And I thought the game couldn't get any more fun!)
To put it all shortly: THIS GAME ROCKS! You cannot find a better way to spend twenty bucks on a game. Sucking Vacuum is ten times more fun (and has ten times better art) than anything in the same price range; and it's half the price of anything comparable in quality.
BUY IT! You will love it! |
