Hey! That’s My Fish! – Mini-review by Mike Petty
Hey! That’s My Fish! is a new release from Mayfair Games. It’s the simplest game I’ve seen in a long time, yet it offers plenty of interesting choices in its short playing time.
The game comes with sixty hexagonal tiles depicting one to three fish on each one. There are also four penguins in four colors. Depending on how many are playing, each player will get two to four penguins. The rules to this game are so simple I usually explain them in under a minute. Penguins start on tiles with one fish. On a turn, move a penguin in a straight line as far as it can go. It can’t cross over other penguins or breaks in the “ice”. Pick up the hex you started from. The fish on that tile you pick up will count as points at the end. That’s about it.
Of course, it will take one game for players to realize the importance of blocking off areas of the ice. This is a key aspect of the game, since a penguin alone on a separated section of tiles will likely be able to pick them all up.
The game can be played in under twenty minutes. The only thing that keeps me from playing several times in a row is the initial set up of the sixty tiles.
In summary, with its cute theme, easy to learn rules and room for some carefully planned moves, I consider Hey! That’s My Fish! a nearly perfect game for its genre. If you’re looking for something gamers and non-gamers can enjoy for a short time together, you can’t go wrong with this catch.

This was a great find, a very quick game with a surprising amount of strategy, in a form cute and light enough to engage kids!
I was sad to see it isn't available here in this form, but am really considering getting the Deluxe version that is for sale here to pass on to kids as gifts.

If you've ever played Penguins or Penguin Soccer, you know that penguins are a dangerously inviting theme for a game. Luckily, this game is nothing like the aforementioned... it's a classic, simple yet strategic Knizia game about an increasingly shrinking board full of delicious fish. This is the lovely travel-sized version! |
