Carcassonne   (View Game)

It's a great gateway game because the gameplay is easy to pick up. The only complicated part is the scoring. Even hardcore gamers will have fun just putting tiles on the board and making them fit.

A whole lot of fun to play with GOOD friends! I emphasize "good" because there's a lot of backstabbing involved and you MAY damage relationships with this game. However, as long as you're all just playing this game to have fun, it's guaranteed you'll have a blast.

Fluxx (v4.0)   (View Game)

A game where the rules are always changing. It's a lot of fun IF you don't take the game too seriously. If you play too seriously, you will get turned off by the amount of luck involved.

Power Grid   (View Game)

This is one of my favorite games because of the game's economy. Supply and demand is in effect at all times. The best strategy is always about making the most efficient moves based on the state of the economy, and planning a few moves in advance. Not a game for non-gamers though!

Scotland Yard   (View Game)

This is a game that I always want to play again after it's finished. There's so much tensioned involved in trying to catch Mr. X and the game plays out differently every time. The rules are simple, but it's not the shortest game especially for players who like to "overthink"

Lost Cities card game   (View Game)

Easy to learn and quick to play. I think there's a bit too much luck involved, but the fact that you can always play a revenge match right away makes up for it.

Apples to Apples   (View Game)

Lots of silly fun. It's not for serious gamers at all but if you're at a party, it's easy to get everyone involved.

Pandemic - 2013 Edition   (View Game)
   Mark P
This is the first cooperative game I played and is quick (30 mins) and easy to learn. The rules are easy to teach to new players. I'd highly recommend letting new players come up with own strategies by themselves so they don't feel like only 1 or 2 players are controlling all the action. There's a lot of tension when the action comes down to the wire.

Settlers of Catan Board Game   (View Game)

A game that's easy to teach and is fun to play. There's a lot of randomness and luck involved but since there's plenty of player interaction, it doesn't feel so frustrating. Great gateway game.

San Juan   (View Game)

San Juan is a great card game especially for 2 players. There are many strategies to try and win. You may feel after every game that a single card is too powerful and too much luck is involved, but after many plays, I've realized that you create your own luck. It also plays fairly quickly, less than an hour for sure. Well worth the price!
