San Juan
From the Publisher...
Puerto Rico’s golden age returns. Through you! Players travel now to the capital city of this beautiful island. Who will build the most important buildings? Players build palaces, poor houses, silver smelters, gold mines, and many others - each with its own special features. The cleverest player will build well and win!
As with the board game, players choose roles which can help all players, but the choosing player gets a special privilege with the role chosen. Players build buildings, produce and sell goods, and so on. The game is based on Puerto Rico, but different enough to give players new challenges and opportunities for fun and enjoyment.

I really love this game. Compared it to the bigger cousin, Puerto Rico, it has the advantage of zero setup time. Game play is simple but to win the game, you need to make sure you have the right buildings that can help you. At this stage, I like the Library a lot but after playing more games, it is likely to change my strategy. It's now the hottest game played in the cafe. |

I played San Juan last night and it is a great game! It is similar to Puerto Rico, but has enough differences to be a much different game. Like my friend only had one producing plant (Indigo) and just kept building buildings (built the Library, right off) and ended up tying for the win with me (I had 6 production buildings). This game is lots of fun! The rule book is kind-of long, but I had the gist figured out in under 30 minutes. |

I love this game!! This is one of my new favorites. It's different every time. You never know which buildings you're going to be able to build(or even draw). It's much quicker than Puerto Rico. I like the fact that there aren't too many pieces. You basically just deal and go!! A MUST have to any gamer's collection. |

San Juan is a great card game based on the board game Puerto Rico. The cards are god quality, and the information on the cards is easy to read and understand. My wife really enjoys this game, and I enjoy playing it with her. The main reasons I like this is game is the quick playing time, and the simple rules. Recommended! |

This is a great game that I think works well for two players or four. My wife and I enjoy a playing it together. I love the different ways you can build up your cards to gain points and privileges. I really enjoy the role choosing mechanism as it adds some strategy to the game so it is not about which cards you happen to draw. Highly recommended! |

Great use of cards as currency, buildings and victory point generators. Has many possibilities for strategies and still plays fast. |

Very quality game where you get to play a fairly strategic game without a ton of set-up or too long of a playing time. I haven't played Puerto Rico yet, but if you are at all into card games or board games I think this'll be a hit. Great addition to any gaming collection. |
I like the way cards are used both for money, abilities and victory points. It plays great with 3 or 4 players but does require some familiarity with the different cards in the game. |

San Juan is a great card game especially for 2 players. There are many strategies to try and win. You may feel after every game that a single card is too powerful and too much luck is involved, but after many plays, I've realized that you create your own luck. It also plays fairly quickly, less than an hour for sure. Well worth the price! |

It is a good Race for the Galaxy clone (or is it vice-versa) if you don't want to be going at it for an hour. |

San Juan is something of a marriage between Race for the Galaxy (or the Catan Card Game, as another example) and Puerto Rico, its parent game. It's certainly worth having in addition to PR, and it's a very fun, fast game lasting under an hour. The sweet spot is 2-player. Lots of winning strategies. |
San Juan is definately one of my favourite card games - I love the way the cards are used for so many different things (ressouces, buildings, victory points). My experience is, that it can take a couple of plays to really get the hang of the game, but that it plays very fast and is great fun afterwards. Highly recommended for those who enjoy collectable card games as well, since there is a bit of the same feeling when you create combinations with the buildings you choose. |
