Through the Desert
From the Publisher...
From the award-winning game designer Reiner Knizia comes a game of strategy, patience, and cool plastic camels!
The desert is treacherous, mysterious, and without mercy. But for those willing to risk the dangers of the shifting, sun-baked sands, the desert holds riches beyond compare.
In Through the Desert, two to five players each control a tribe of nomads vying for control of the desert. By establishing caravans and taking over oases, the players gain points as their tribes increase in power.
Strategy is essential in deciding how and where to build your tribe's caravans. There is more than one way to gain points, and several ways to win. Should you try to build the longest caravan? Or should you dominate the desert's oases? Don't forget to keep an eye on your opponents' caravans, or you may find your own tribe cut off from valuable water holes.
Through the Desert is playable by ages 10 and up, and is suitable for the whole family. You can play an entire game in under an hour.
This new printing features the same plastic camels, but a great new price.
Through the Desert includes: 1 game board , 175 plastic camel playing pieces
, 30 plastic camel-rider playing pieces
, 45 water hole counters
, 5 oasis counters
, 40 point-counting chips

The rules are very simple, but the decisions very interesting. It plays well from 2 to 5 players (best of all with 4, I think). And the pastel camels are cool. |

This game is probably one of the best games I've ever played ever. This game is far more deceptive than the rules would suggest. I mean, how hard can it be to place two camels on the board? Seriously, this is an excellent game, and any strategy gamer should try it. |

If you're looking for an easy to learn, fast-playing, fun game for the whole family, pick up Through the Desert now. Can be a bit cutthroat (intentionallly or unintentionally) as players go for the most points, but hey it's just a game. Luck is practically non-existent in this classic. |

this is a very fast game. the players play their camels in the board trying to reach points and oasis in a very tigh competition. when one of the camel piles ends the players total their points and receive extra ones for camel color majority and captured area. very fun |

This is a great game with fantastic components. I really enjoy the pastel colored camels that come with the game. The heart of the game is area enclosure, and it is a lot of fun. |

If this game is available - do not hesitate to buy it! This is a strategy game with SUPER quality pieces that is a lot of fun... and is different every time you play! This game (as others suggest) is deceptive in its simplicity - and maddening when you play... so much can happen - so much can change! It's even great as a 2 player game! |

What a great game! I worry about games being too long to ever get a group to play... or being too short to ever get a group to care about. Through the Desert is really short (an hour including setup and break down) but gripping, often a game we'll choose to play a second time when we've finished. The gameplay is great, and the scoring system is balanced. Altogether, TtD is my top Knizia game alongside Samurai, and though I'll go for the 100+ pastel camels any day. |
