A secret that will unleash unspeakable horrors on the fateful afternoon of August 24th...
Come to beautiful Pompeii with this exciting game! You will use cards to attract your Roman friends and relatives to the town. But hidden in the deck is the dreaded Vesuvius card! Once this card is drawn, the volcano will erupt, raining fire onto the unsuspecting city! Now you must struggle to escape the doomed city, rushing to avoid the constant streams of lave that threaten to engulf your people! Will you be able to save them all? The player with the most survivors will be the winner!

| I love this game! There is enough strategy and thought to the game that I tell people you have to know what you are doing to win. But there is a little bit of randomness so that the same person won't win every time. I love the chance in this game to get at your opponents - it is a good feeling to put a lava tile over their person so you can throw it into the volcano. We even make a little sound effect as we do so. Highly recommended! |

| A great game for everyone, especially for those who want some player interaction. Just when everyone is trying to escape you can throw your opponents' people into Vesuvius! Easy to learn, plays very quickly and there are no minor technical details to fuss over. |
Quixotequest
| Pompeii is a decent disaster escape game because of the map placement "phase one" of the game. It teaches easily and historically, has a fairly good mechanic to match the theme -- even if I'm not sure Romans sacrificed people to volcanoes. Board is pretty close to historically accurate as to what kinds of buildings were located in the various parts of the historical city of Pompeii. The "Phase 2" escape part of the game has some fun dose of "getcha" mechanism that lets you screw your opponents with lava.
The only real complaint is that the production values could be a bit better. Board is a little thin and meeples are uncreative cylinders -- and supplied in varied quantity so that, say in a two-player game, you can only choose two of the four available pawn colors. The plastic volcano is nice.
Pompeii was one of our favorite sites to visit in Italy. This game is fun on its own, but a nice bonus for reliving memories if you've visited. |
