Caylus
From the Publisher...
To strengthen the borders of the Kingdom of France, King Philip the Fair decided to have a new castle built. For the time being, Caylus is but a humble village, but soon, workers and craftsmen will be flocking by the cartload, attracted by the great prospects. Around the building site, a city is slowly rising up…
The players embody master builders. By building the King’s castle and developing the city around it, they earn prestige points and gain the King’s favor. When the castle is finished, the player who has earned the most prestige wins the game.

After only 3 playings, I see this is a game to challenge anyone for a long time. Each game is slightly different, so it will always be a challenge to find the best path to victory. Lots of options each turn to compete for - a real brain burner. One of my favorites! |

Finally played this game and was not disappointed. I like the many paths to victory and the game requires some thought. You need to adapt your strategy as your opponents can quickly throw a wrench into your plans! |
Caylus is a very well respected worker placement game. I think the reason for this great succes, is that there are so many different and subtle ways of interacting and influencing the other players. This keeps the game interesting and means that you constantly have to reevaluate your position and your strategy. |

As long as you play with people who won't bog the whole process down with their AP tendencies, this game is a real treat. With a slightly different setup each time, you can't simply rely on the same scripting of steps to be successful.
A wonderfully deep game for anyone who loves to think! |
