Citadels Expansion :The Dark City Expansion
From the Publisher...
Enter the Dark City!
Dark clouds are gathering, and a cold wind is blowing above the towers, crenellations and tall statutes of the old city. Among the nobles in the castles and mansions below, the deadly intrigues and struggles for power continue, while the citizens of the darkening city close their doors and await the coming of night. The Dark City is an expansion for FFG's bestselling game Citadels. The Dark City includes 14 exciting new purple district cards, a complete set of replacement cards for the 18 Citadels characters (perfect for those who have worn out their first set!), a new wooden "King" piece, and 8 handy new Citadelsreference cards.
Citadels is the best-selling title in FFG's popular Silver Line brand of games, and is among the bestselling items in FFG's catalog. The Dark City expansion will allow players to spice up their Citadels game with new cards and rekindle their love and excitement for this great game of bluffing and city-building.

The new edition of Citadels comes with this expansion included, but if you have the first edition these cards extend replayability and expand variety in the game. The Dark City expansion adds a number of cards to be shuffled into the original deck at will. This includes district cards - all purple - and character cards that replace existing characters, should you choose to use them. Definitely worth getting if you own the older edition! One note - if your card backs are scuffed, everyone will recognize the new cards immediately. |

The version of Citadels that I bought already included the Dark City Expansion so I never had to evaluate whether or not it was worth it to buy the expansion by itself. However, with that being said, the new characters and purple buildings that this expansion adds are very interesting and will breathe new life into the game for a long time to come. If you've got one of the earlier versions that doesn't already have the expansion, get it! |
This is a must have expansion to the base game (and indeed included in the newer editions of the base game). It introduces alternative characters for every role of the base game, which can be combined with the original in any number of ways - resulting in a huge boost of replayability! |

A small but versatile game suitable from 2 up to 7 players. The role selection mechanism is similar to San Juan but different in that there is some secrecy/guessing involved and is somewhat like Race for the Galaxy but there is no role duplication. The expansion included is a nice bonus- more roles = more interesting game play plus the extra district cards will surely spice up the game. A simple to set up and learn game playable in about 30 minutes-45 minutes depending on the number players & how long they take to select their roles. Highly recommended. |
