I love the dungeon crawl theme of this deck building game, and all the mechanics work so well to enhance the theme. An example is the dungeon, which requires light to go down. The more light you have, the further down you can go down to battle more monsters. |

A good 'upgrade' if you will to Dominion for those of us who like more rpg theme. Don't leave home without your torch. Just got this, played twice so far and can't wait to play more! |

Thunderstone is a card drafting game much like Dominion. This game is NOT just a Dominion clone though. It provides a much different playing experience than Dominion. Plus, it actually has a theme! What we love about it is that it is more involved than Dominion and thus provides a richer experience. There's already a few expansions out there so you shouldn't get bored. Enjoy! |

Thunderstone is Dominion with less "elegance", but a much, much cooler theme. Accumulate adventurers and weapons, all to delve into the dungeon and kill beasties for fortune and glory.
It's a great feeling arming up your party and taking down a large dragon. With a large mix of monsters and cards, every game will be a different adventure. |

This is an interesting take on the deck building genre. I recommend this to people who like games like Dominion, but would prefer a more fantasy-oriented flavor. There's no direct combat, but you both compete side by side destroying monsters in an epic competition to be the first to earn the Thunderstone! |

Many people compare thunderstone to dominion, and many people love it. It's got the same deck-building mechanics.
However, for the same reason that other people love it, I end up preferring dominion... let me try to explain why:
Theme: Many people think that thunderstone is more thematic, and they like the idea of being an explorer and fighting evil monsters. However, this hurts the game for me. It's got a cool theme, but it doesn't really satisfy everything that I want from a fantasy game. It's too abstract, so I don't really feel like I'm fighting monsters, especially when I send people on suicide missions just to get rid of them in my deck.
Randomness: People like how the monsters and the order they appear in change the game and strategies, but I don't like this. I really prefer the freedom in Dominion and I hate getting an awesome monster-killing hand just to find all the monsters available for killing aren't worth anything after the person ahead of me killed the best one. It ends up being frustrating to me.
For these reasons, I end up preferring Dominion. However, it's still fun and has great strategy, it's just not my favorite. |
