Space Alert
From the Publisher...
It is a team survival game: a type of cooperative game. Players become crew members of a small spaceship scanning dangerous sectors of galaxy. The missions last just 10 minutes (hyperspace jump, sector scan, hyperspace jump back) and the only task the players have is to protect their ship. On 2 CDs (or Scenario cards if you don't have a CD player available) are ten minutes long soundtracks that represent central computer announcements about the presence of various threats. These vary from space battleships and interceptors to different interstellar monsters and abominations, asteroids or even intruders and malfunctions on the spaceship. Players have to agree who will take care of which task and coordinate their actions (moving around the ship, firing weapons, distributing energy, using battlebots to deal with intruders, launching guided missiles etc.) in real time to defend the ship. Only a well-working team can survive 10 minutes and make the jump back to safety.
The game offers several difficulty levels, huge variability and a unique experience for two to five player teams. One mission lasts only about 30 minutes, including setup and evaluation.

A chaotically fun game. Playing with the soundtrack on the computer really enhances the urgency. We missed one threat during training mission but managed to survive the other 2. The backstory is amusing--read the training manual and it's good for some laughs. Game was well received. One guy watching us couldn't stop laughing. |

Space Alert is a PURE co-op game. In other co-op games usually one person takes charge and makes all the decisions for everyone. In Space Alert you're being attacked in real time (comes with a soundtrack) and have to react quickly. If everyone isn't on the same page you're all dead. This is an excellent game where you have to learn to trust your teammates. Enjoy! |

Fun, fast, and extremely chaotic.
As your ship exits hyperspace, you and your crew find yourself under attack from every direction. You have to quickly plan and coordinate in real-time to survive until you can jump to your next location. |

One of the BEST co-op games out there- combines the best elements of Pandemic with an incredible amount of theme & pacing unlike most other games. The thing that sets this game apart is the TENSION-- it is fantastically fast-paced and intense- there is no sitting around waiting for any one player to take the lead, and taking your time to work out a multi-step solution- EVERYBODY has to get involved, think on their feet and get coordinated in order for the mission to be successful. The sound track is a great timer & randomizer for the game- we found it was fun to set the resolution round to the Imperial March... extra ominous atmosphere for when your ship is flying apart into pieces... You will feel a real sense of accomplishment after each successful flight- Good Luck on your first missions! |

Think Pandemic meets RoboRally... and then put that game on a 10 minute timer. It took us a while to understand Space Alert (mainly because we learned it from the rulebook instead of the introductory guide...), but once it clicks with a group it really works! By far my favorite cooperative! |
