Settlers of Catan Board Game ; (Third Edition) *ND

My family enjoys playing games, however had a bit of a dry spell. After discovering this game, our passion has been rekindled. Easily one of the best games ever made. It's combination of luck and strategy are very well put together, The variables are also high enough to where lack of replayability is not a problem. Highly recommended!! |

We played this game EVERY SINGLE DAY at college - sometimes twice. There were waiting lists. If you have friends, get this game. If you don't have friends get this game, then go out and make some friends and then play this game! |

I didn't think I would be interested in a "trading" game. I always thought these very boring. But last Saturday changed all that. The game Settlers of Catan is now one of my favorites - right next to Risk and Axis and Allies! I very much want to get it now. |

This is the best multi-player strategy game ever designed, no question about it! It has a strong theme and is simple enough to teach to non-gamers. There is an extraordinary amount of depth to the strategy, but enough luck to counter balance it so that the winner is never a foregone conclusion. While some complain about the game having too much luck (I used to be one of those), my non-gamer friends would never play the game if they thought they had no chance of winning. True, the luck can be annoying some time, but the game has enough depth that I learn more about the game every time I play it even though I've played it nearly 50 times! Peurto Rico is probably the only other game I can say that about, but I have a hard time convincing my non-gamer friends to play it with me. |

If you call yourself a gamer, you must own this game. Makes Monopoly seem silly. A great introduction to German board games. |

Surprisingly easy to pick up, despite the level of strategy and diplomacy need. It has an amazingly addictive quality and the mix of skill and luck makes each game different while allowing you to improve. This is the game that renewed my interest in board games, and every other person whom I've introduced it to has been hooked. |

Our all time favorite! A great combination of strategy and trading. We first played Settlers when we went on a group trip to Tahoe. Every night, we couldn't wait till we returned to the cabin so we can play Settlers. Every night, we played till 2, 3, or 4 a.m.! Not only is this a super-fun game for beginners, it's also really funny to listen to others play! "Sheep, sheep... brick, lumber,..." |

Settlers is a great game and it changes everytime you play it. It's a must have. My TOP 5 most important things to do in order to win.
1. Placement is a key. Place first on wheat and ore if possible with great numbers
2. Race to get placement by building roads, but if you don't need to race, build a city before anything else.
3. Longest road or largest Army is essiential to winning. Though you can win without them, it is difficult
4. Second placement can be a gamble. If you have good wheat and ore already, of course try and get wood and brick. Sheep is always in abundance it seems, so if nothing is left go for a harbor where your best numbers will aquire good trading possibilites.
5. Last is Number selections. The more different the numbers you have the better off you will be. |
