Agricola

Paula Baker
Agricola is a fun farm-building game. In the simplified family game, you construct your own farm house, plough fields and plant wheat or vegetables, and raise sheep, cows and wild boars. You can even keep a pet! In the more complicated versions of the game, you can have jobs (occupations) and add more improvements to your farm. This game is very versatile. You can simplify it, or add more levels of complexity with the different decks of cards. It includes cards for easy games, interactive games, and complex games. You can also play this game alone, with only one person! |

Build your own Spanish castle/fortress – an Alhambra – with up to 6 players. You compete for money to buy different rooms, gardens, pavilions and fountains to expand your castle. The player with the highest scoring castle at the end of the game is the winner. This game is easy to learn, and doesn’t take too long to play (about 45 minutes). The game pieces are colorful and high quality. |
Abandon Ship

This fast, fun racing game by Reiner Knizia is great for families and larger groups looking for a light-hearted game, since up to seven people can play. Even with a large group, game play is fast, and you never know who is in the lead, because each person secretly plays 3 of the 7 rats - so you will be playing some of the same pieces! The board is also really unique; it simulate a sinking ship with a rising water level. |
Ingenious (English version of Einfach Genial)

This game has been a hit with everyone who has tried it, even people who claim they don't really like games have loved this and ask for it again. The rules are simple, you lay tiles of matching shapes/colors (so it plays well for those who may be colorblind, too). But the scoring system has a twist - everyone's lowest scored shape/color is used to determine the winner. This game also scales really nicely for 2, 3 or 4 players. The board size changes, depending upon the number of people playing. And it only takes about 30 minutes to play! |
