Scotland Yard   (View Game)

Scotland Yard is a classic deduction game. I like to play it with a full group of players, so that the detectives really have to coordinate their activities to be able to effectively cut off and catch Mr. X. The deduction element in Scotland Yard is really well done and feels 100% integrated in the game - which is very rare for this type of game!

I've been playing this game since I was a child, and I still enjoy it to this day. In a way, you are getting two games in one, since it feels so different to play "Mr. X" and the detectives. At heart, it is an abstract game of trying to guess hidden movement with limited information, but the way they use the map and public transport tickets to do this makes it feel very thematic.

There are a few newer games that complicate the great formula behind Scotland Yard, such as Fury of Dracula or Nuns on the Run. Those are great and all... but Scotland Yard is a classic, and actually a really good one at that. Very fun, tense, and clever.

I was initially turned off by the fact that this game has been around for 20 years or longer. I figured that there's no way a game that old was worth my time (or money!). I could not have been more wrong! This game plays fast, is very engaging, and actually looks great on top of all that! In a battle of wits, the one player who takes on the persona of Mr. X tries to escape the nets of the other players (each one a detective). Great game for players of all ages!

This is a game that I always want to play again after it's finished. There's so much tensioned involved in trying to catch Mr. X and the game plays out differently every time. The rules are simple, but it's not the shortest game especially for players who like to "overthink"

A great game of bluffing and guessing. It is one of the few games I've tried, where you are actually trying to use deduction.

This is a classic game that I remember getting for Christmas 20 years ago. I still love it. It is one against the rest as you try and corner Mr. X. With the right group it can be a real challenge. The new version comes with a hat to hide Mr. X's eyes so no clues are given away. I love being Mr. X but it is not as easy as it looks.
