One of the things I really dislike in games is downtime while others carry out their moves. Blackbeard handles this extremely well by letting the non-active players act as the opposition to the active player. This means that there is always something to do, even when it is not your turn - and it is not just trivial. the opposition provided by the non-active players is very important for the balance and outcome of the game.
