The turn always starts with a roll of the dice. Unlike many games, when you take your turn, everyone else will be just as interested to see your roll. The total rolled on the dice determine which hexes produce resources during your turn. This means any player may get valuable resources on any turn.
In this example, the player rolled an "8". Since the orange settlement is next to an "8", that player will get the resource depicted on the hex. In this case, it's rock. Rock is necessary for building cities and for drawing special cards. |
